True Crime Shout Outs: Shittin Bricks

We all have something that scares the shit out of us. It could be the suffocating feeling of being closed into a tight space. A spider creeping by with its long, spindly legs. Even clusters of dense holes can send some into a panic-like state. While many would love to rid themselves of their deepest, darkest fears, it's their fear that tells them where the boundaries are. There is a fine line between bravery and fearlessness. Bravery is a noble quality that requires a certain amount of fear. Fearlessness is the kind of quality likely to get you killed.

For this month's True Crime Shout Out, I have decided to depart slightly from the true crime genre of podcasts to bring you this terrifying gem. Shittin Bricks, hosted by Dom and Kate, is a fascinating, educational, and entertaining show that dives deep into the things that scare us most. With a focus on phobias and thrilling stories that relate to each one, these cousins and co-hosts have put their spine-tingling spin on this podcast. Each week Dom and Kate trade off telling enthralling, nerve-wracking stories that relate directly to whatever phobia they educate you on at the top of the show. While Kate favors stories of miraculous survival and tyrannical weather, Dom tends to skew more towards the blood and gore of true crime.

Take a break with Dom and Kate and learn all about the different phobias that people suffer from as well as the physical and psychological effects, and the reasons for the fears themselves. What causes a phobia to form? Why are the effects so debilitating for so many? They thoroughly cover well-known phobias, like claustrophobia or the common fear of clowns. Lesser known anxieties, like trypophobia, the fear of clusters of dense holes, are also explored.

Join Kate for her awesome trifecta episodes, where she typically finds three of the most gripping stories associated with a particular fear. She has explored the phenomenon known as Locked In Syndrome (LIS), creepy twin stories, The Headless Horseman, torture devices of the Middle Ages, and an array of heroic tales of survival in extreme conditions. Stories of those that have been lost in the wilderness, lost in the snow, trapped in caves, or stranded in the desert. She also delivered such intriguing stories as that of Charles Ponzi, inventor of the Ponzi scheme, Bernie Madoff, the town of Tenopah, Nevada, and the Cecil Hotel.

While Kate tends to find three fascinating stories for many of her episodes, Dom likes to keep the listeners guessing on an occasional cliffhanger. He's covered some lighter stories, such as the Somerton Man, Miracle Flight 571, the Isdal Woman, and the Mysteries of Ireland. He has also covered much more gruesome material, like Albert Fish, Dean Corll, Ed Gein, Gertrude Baniszewski, Ivan Milat, and the Amityville Horror.

Whether you're in for a Kate episode or a Dom episode, you know it's going to be a wild ride. They'll thrill you, chill you to the bone, and make you bust out laughing with their stories and banter. So if you're looking for a whole new way to freak yourself out, or just trying to learn a little more about fear and why we get so scared of certain things, Shittin Bricks is the podcast for you! Check them out wherever you find podcasts for a fresh new addiction. As Dom says, drop your decks, pop a squat, and let's get into it!
